Hitachi unveils new ZX14-3
Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) has announced a significant new addition to its popular Zaxis-3 range of excavators – the ZX14-3 – highlighting a new level of performance.
Filling an important gap in the 1-2 tonne class, the new model has been developed to compete in the general construction sector and strengthens the leading Japanese manufacturer’s position in the mini excavator market.
Joep van den Maagdenberg, HCME Area Sales Representative comments: “Hitachi mini excavators deliver a powerful package in terms of versatility and reliability. The ZX14-3 is positioned within a crucial class and has evolved from the existing Zaxis range.
“It has already been tested on a wide range of job sites with extremely positive results. So, we are confident that the enhanced performance of the ZX14-3 will be well received by our dealers and in the market as a whole.”
Better performance
The ZX14-3 is a basic, no-nonsense model that is extremely easy to operate. Compact and light in design, the new model can be transported by trailer and is small enough to work in confined spaces.
Hitachi has equipped the new ZX14-3 mini excavator with a powerful – yet economical – and durable engine. The three-cylinder 10.7 kW powerplant and larger exhaust capacity help to reduce fuel consumption and comply with the new European Stage III A emission regulations. The large 22-litre capacity fuel tank increases operating time and productivity as a result.
Performance is enhanced by innovative hydraulics, similar to those found in Hitachi Zaxis medium excavators. The new model’s control levers are responsive, allowing for smooth and precise operation, which in turn leads to increased efficiency and productivity.
Ultimate comfort and safety
Hitachi is working towards the ultimate combination of man and machine – with the emphasis on comfort and safety. The operator is very much in the driving seat with excellent all-round visibility due to the enlarged window surface.
The spacious cab contains a comfortable, fully adjustable seat with ample leg room and foot space. The levers allow continuous operation with less fatigue and the ergonomically designed controls and switches are within easy reach.
Operator comfort and control are enhanced by a comprehensive dashboard with an easy-to-view monitor. The display can be used to check information such as maintenance intervals and fuel consumption figures.
The cab has a strong structure and offers excellent stability with its low centre of gravity. Noise and vibrations are kept to a minimum due to an improved tread pattern on the rubber tracks – an innovative vibration-reducing feature to increase operator comfort.
Other key competitive features include the neutral engine start system and shut-off lever which prevent accidental movements. For added convenience, the door also opens flush to the cab.
Reduced running costs
The ZX14-3 has low running and maintenance costs due to its new engine and hydraulic system. The hydraulics help to distribute the oil pressure more efficiently. This innovation helps to reduce fuel consumption without compromising on performance.
Its exterior fuel gauge and easy-access inspection points reduce downtime and allow for convenient servicing and routine maintenance. The oil cooler and radiator are situated in parallel which allows for easy cleaning of these components.
The ZX14-3 excavator also benefits from a durable undercarriage, a firm chassis and a strong front attachment. These features enhance the stability, residual value and ultimate reliability of the machine.
