The art of versatility
From growing fine French mushrooms to restoring 15th-Century castles, the soft limestone found in parts of western France is an extremely versatile and invaluable resource. We visited the Maquignon Frères quarry in Usseau to learn more about the business behind it, and how its fleet of Hitachi construction machinery has contributed to transforming the region’s horticulture and architecture.
Black Gold Rush
Hitachi is making a huge impact on the mining industry in South Africa. This is being driven by Hitachi Construction Machinery Southern Africa (HCSA) and the quality and growing reputation of the manufacturer’s rigid dump trucks and large excavators. Ground Control digs deep into the country’s coalfields to find out how Hitachi has accumulated such vast reserves of market knowledge and expertise.
The road to success
The amount of road surface damage continues to increase with the volume of traffic in Europe. New routes are also required to reduce traffic problems and delays. The German Government is currently investing heavily in new road construction and ongoing maintenance of the existing network. We visited one of the many road construction projects currently being undertaken by the Faber Group and its large fleet of Hitachi construction machinery.
Arabian Might
Not content with spending its $200 billion oil fortune constructing the world's tallest tower, Dubai's rulers are reclaiming the seabed to build luxury villas on islands shaped like giant palm trees. Unsurprisingly, Hitachi machines are being used for the tough jobs of rock working and shore protection.
Higher Demolition Efficiency
In February, Lämmle Recycling GmbH, started demolition of an ancient brewery at Altenmünster in Germany. To execute the contract quickly and efficiently the company used the new Hitachi Zaxis 500 LC, equipped with a unique Genesis 'Quick-Connect-System'.
Going where no others have gone before
A new range of short-tail-swing excavators that can get into the tightest spots. For them no job is too small.
EX1200: Site-Prep King
Two Florida Companies Discover the High-Production Capacity of the EX1200.
EX8000: Massive in Scope
The most exciting mining projects in North America are in Alberta. Now that viable technology can extract oil from the region's oil sands at a competitive price, the Fort McMurray region has taken on a gold rushera feel as companies invest in this real alternative to Mideast oil.
Tank dismantled using Hitachi Power
A Norwegian demolition company has been appointed to remove the upper structure of
the Ekofisk 2/4 T, which is commonly known as "the tank". It consists of almost 25,000
tonnes of steel and other materials which will be brought ashore by AF Decom AS to its
new receiving station for marine structures.
Building blocks with Hitachi
The world's largest brick manufacturer has added a new Hitachi excavator to its fleet
of construction machinery. The Zaxis 460 LC has been purchased by Wienerberger to
extract clay for delivery to two of its tile works in Denmark.
ZX670LCH-3: Cold at the Top
As the Zaxis ZX670LCH-3 was being unveiled at the intermat exhibition in Paris, one of the new generation of large Hitachi excavators was already making an impact elsewhere in the world. Home to the first European delivery of the ZX670LCH-3, Iceland, we visited to witness the machine at work in rather unusual surrounding.
ZAXIS-3: Operator's comfort
Hitachi asked me to test the new Zaxis 350. Normally, I'm not that easily impressed. However, when I saw this shiny new excavator I was quite excited. The first thing I noticed was all of the glass when I climbed inside the cabin. When I sat down it provided me with good all-round visibility. It immediately puts me at ease and made me feel comfortable and safe.
